Obtain a learner’s permit

Student must be 15 years and 6 months of age

The student needs to pass three tests at the DMV:

• Vision Screening

• Street Signs Test - Must answer all 10 questions correctly

• General Knowledge Test - Must correctly answer 24-30 questions

After receiving a permit

Must have a minimum of 45 hours of driving practice over a 9 month period.

15 of the 45 practice hours must be after sunset (night driving)

Earning a License

Student driver must be at least 16 years and 3 months old

Must pass a state approved driver education class and receive a DEC-1 certificate

Complete a Behind The Wheel driving course

• The course consists of 7 lessons. The final lesson is a road test.
